FAIL to spend

Ever had one of those days when you were BURNING for a retail fix and came home empty handed? Just nothing would do today- wrong sizes, wrong colours, wrong material, wrong drape, boring, boring, boring (but that´s Munich for you).

Maybe I´m becoming more discerning?

I hope so.

Nothing that would make me feel like Liv Tyler anyway and nothing perfect for a girl´s night out on Saturday.

Reminder to self: There are probably far more interesting items in my own wardrobe than the shops at present!

Reporting in

This was/is my lunch and dinner (to go with salad). I love Sashimi!

This is my 16th Wednesday Weigh-in post (but not continously), I am still at it!

Another kilo down I am happy to report. I managed to get back on track after starting to fall into a bad routine late last week. I had got into the habit of wandering into the kitchen - and fridge- repeatedly and getting little nibbles - esp bits of cheese.

I made myself stop last night through the amazing power of WILLPOWER though I also know the nights have to be calmer for me - quieter and better organised. Means I need to get the kids into bed a bit earlier, have the house tidied up a bit earlier in the evening etc, so I feel more relaxed.

If I am happy, then I may still wander over the the fridge, but I will also then have the presence of mind to say "no" and not mindlessly start chomping. Because not eating after seven was working very well for me before!

These are my Salad Days...

In an effort to encourage my new healthy lifestyle I bought myself (and the family) some snazzy new salad bowls today from kitchenware maker Guzzini´s Vintage range.

They are unbreakable (ish) (always a plus at our house), colourful (though I didn´t go for blue as I was trying to stick to actual food colours) and BIG - big enough to hold huge healthy individual salads without stuff going everywhere!

I am so pleased with these - I´ve wanted some salad dinner bowls for some time.

My somewhat RAW and healthy dinner will nowdays be a changing base of:

- whatever salad greens I have that day- rocket, spinach, lettuce
- ground nuts, esp walnut, macadamia and brazil
- pumpkin, linseed, sesame and sunflower seeds
- crumbled feta cheese
- buffalo mozzarella
- toasted pine nuts
- boiled eggs
- grilled goats cheese rounds
- olive oil, balsalmico, walnut oil, lemon juice, crushed garlic
- red onion, cucumber, fennel, tomato, grated carrot, capsicums, celery - all vegetables
- freshly made hummus
- falafel balls
- olives
- sliced apple or pear

-----> anything that takes my fancy really!

I think I mentioned before I am DESPERATE to stay healthy this winter- last winter felt like one constant cold from November to February - giving up sugar will be the other prong of my fork against illness.

Salad suggestions very welcome!

Lentil Salad Recipe

Due to an overwhelming response (thanks Wildernesschic!) here is a recipe for a fantastic lentil salad which my whole extended family is obsessed with. I don´t know where my mother originally got the recipe from, however it´s now considered one of her specialities.

The below recipe is for 2 cans of lentils, however the salad bowl in my previous post contains 6 cans!

----------------------------
2 tins canned lentils 400gr tins each, drained and rinsed, drained (browny coloured cooked lentils, usually from Italy)

3 limes or 6 tbsp lime juice

1 medium red onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, chopped finely

small to medium bunch fresh coriander, chopped finely

1 small chilli, seeds removed, finely chopped,

equal amounts of mild sweet chilli sauce, and extra virgin olive oil---I used 50 ml of each

salt and pepper

I have added chopped red capsicum, chopped cucumber and also 2 medium chopped tomatoes sometimes, and you can also add an extra tin of lentils, and just adjust the sauce quantity if you like or leave as is.

--------------------------

ENJOY!

And as it´s FULL of superfoods, you can (and should) eat big helpings :)

Edit, Add and Appreciate Sunday

Super healthy Lentil Salad- ask me for my Mum´s recipe!

It’s Sunday…time to edit, add, and appreciate one thing in your life that will help you be a better you.

Edit one thing–material objects, negative thoughts, bad habits, or activities that don’t reflect who you are as a person. It doesn’t have to be a physical thing; Sometimes bad habits and negative thoughts are more detrimental than physical clutter.

Add something. Bring in something or reinvent one thing in your life–thoughts, habits, activities, clothing, objects…Add something that will help you be a better person; And yes, sometimes a new pair of jeans can help!

Appreciate something or someone already in your life. Hug your children and tell them how special they are. Call your spouse, just because. Be extra polite to the guy who makes your latte. Frame that favorite piece of art.

Edit: Another bag of unworn clothes to go out to the clothing collection on our street Tuesday morning

Add: Wild Alaskan salmon a few times a week as per Dr Perricone. I am reading one of his books at the moment and am feeling very gung-ho about introducing his super-foods to my diet.

Appreciate: My phone that started working again 48 hours after being covered in baby drool! I thought it was completely dead but I think I was very lucky that it came back to life.
WARNING!! Do not let your baby chew on your phone no matter how desperate you are for him to stop whining.

If you have anything to Edd, Add and Appreciate this week, feel free to post below.

Furry Love

Astute readers may remember that I wanted to buy "something furry" with my birthday money from my husband.  Today I bought a wonderfully bold RED detachable fur collar that I can put with whichever jacket I am wearing.

I love it, love it. It´s very european and I feel very much like a woman with an interesting past (and future) with it on!

Next is a furry hat to wear once we are in the depths of winter - yes, it gets that cold here and we spend a lot of time hanging around ice rinks and ski fields. However, it won´t be red, I think just black as I wouldn´t want to take attention away from my collar :)

Anniversary

Wearing red is on my agenda for the future...

I have nearly been blogging a whole year! I´ve had fits and starts and a long break over the summer, however I do think that the groove is worn now and I won´t fall off the wagon.

It´s amazing the subjects that pop into my head sometime to write about and it´s a clear sign of blogging addiction that I am looking for an angle in my everyday life now. Anyone else feel that way?

Anyone else not want to read back over their blog in case there is something totally cringe-worthy there?

So, here is just a head´s up that I will be doing some giveaways in December! The fun part now will be planning them :) and using a random number generator for the first time.

PS. Doctor couldn´t find anything "wrong" with me - no balance problems etc, all my reactions working properly etc. She drew blood and had me do a lung function test. And then I am back next Thursday to discuss again....she said I might need a psychiatrist! And that she could understand why I was having these physical problems however that she couldn´t remove the sources of the stress...
